Parent Help provides a confidential helpline for parents, caregivers, and whānau across Aotearoa. We offer a safe, non-judgmental space where people can talk through the challenges of parenting, feel heard, and receive guidance and support.
As a Helpline Volunteer, you'll often be the first caring voice a parent hears. You'll answer calls, listen with empathy, help callers explore their concerns, provide emotional support, and connect them with helpful information and services where appropriate.
Our helpline operates 9:00am–9:00pm, seven days a week. Volunteers work from home and ideally commit to regular rostered shifts.
What you'll bring:
- Excellent listening and communication skills
- Empathy, compassion, and a non-judgmental approach
- Emotional resilience and the ability to maintain professional boundaries
- Reliability and a commitment to regular rostered shifts
A background in counselling, social work, psychology, education or a related field is an advantage, but it is not essential. We welcome volunteers from a range of backgrounds who are passionate about supporting parents and are willing to learn.
You might be a great fit if you are:
- Calm and grounded when supporting people experiencing stress or distress
- A reflective listener who can build rapport over the phone
- Compassionate, patient, and respectful of diverse parenting experiences
- Comfortable working as part of a supportive volunteer team
Training provided:
Comprehensive training is provided by Parent Help. You'll receive ongoing support, resources, and supervision to help you feel confident in the role.
Support parents, caregivers, and whānau across Aotearoa by providing compassionate, non-judgmental telephone support from home.
