About the Postgraduate Students' Association (PGSA)
The Postgraduate Students' Association (PGSA) is the representative body for postgraduate students at Te Herenga Waka—Victoria University of Wellington.
PGSA works to:
- Advocate for postgraduate student interests
- Support postgraduate representation across the University
- Build postgraduate community and connection
- Promote postgraduate wellbeing and student success
- Strengthen the postgraduate student voice in University decision-making
As PGSA continues to strengthen its governance, representation, and organisational sustainability, we are establishing a Board of Advisers to support this work.
About the Board of Advisers
The Board of Advisers provides independent advice, institutional knowledge, and strategic guidance to the PGSA Executive.
The Board exists to:
- Support good governance practices
- Provide continuity and institutional memory
- Offer strategic advice and constructive feedback
- Assist with organisational development
- Identify risks and opportunities
- Support long-term sustainability
Board members serve in an advisory capacity only.
The Board:
- Does not make decisions on behalf of PGSA
- Does not replace the elected Executive
- Does not direct PGSA operations
- Does not represent PGSA externally unless specifically requested
Who We Are Seeking
We welcome expressions of interest from people with experience in:
- Governance and not-for-profit organisations
- Higher education and research environments
- Student advocacy and representation
- Strategy and organisational development
- Finance, risk, or compliance
- Community development and leadership
- Public policy
- Equity, accessibility, and inclusion
- Māori and Pasifika leadership
- International student issues
Applications are encouraged from:
- Current postgraduate students
- University alumni
- Former student leaders
- Academic and professional staff (in a personal capacity)
- Members of the wider community
PGSA is committed to building a diverse advisory group that reflects the breadth of postgraduate experiences and perspectives.
Term and Time Commitment
Board members will be appointed for:
- A two-year term
- Eligible for reappointment for one additional term
The Board is expected to comprise between five and nine members.
Members should expect:
- One meeting approximately every 1–2 months
- Occasional consultation between meetings
- Participation in governance and strategic discussions where appropriate
Meetings may be held online or in person.
