About Moana Vā - Navigators of Pacific Pride: At Moana Vā, we are the Navigators of
Pacific Pride. We champion the Pacific Rainbow+ community, including LGBTQIA+ and
MVPFAFF+ identities (traditional Pacific gender identities outside the binary, such as
Mahu, Vaka sa lewa lewa, Palopa, Fa’afafine, Akava’ine, Fakaleiti/leiti, and Fakafifine).
Our spaces are grounded in belonging, celebration, and care because at Moana Vā, all
flavours are welcome. We create vibrant, safe, and inclusive spaces that honour the
richness of our diverse communities across Aotearoa and help people feel seen,
connected, and celebrated.
We’re looking for a capable organiser who can turn plans into memorable community
moments. If you thrive on bringing people together, keeping things running smoothly,
and making a real grassroots impact, we’d love to hear from you!
What You’ll Do: As our Operations & Events Coordinator, you’ll work closely with the
General Manager to bring our events calendar to life and help strengthen community
connection through well-run, welcoming experiences. ● Deliver great events: Lead
Moana Vā community events from planning through to pack-down, ensuring each one
feels organised, inclusive, and impactful.
● Support our people: Coordinate and encourage our volunteers so they feel informed,
valued, and ready to contribute.
● Capture what matters: Gather feedback and attendance data to help us understand
our impact and keep improving.
● Keep things moving: Provide strong operational and administrative support so our
Board and leadership can work effectively.
Who You Are: You’re organised, people-focused, calm under pressure. You bring
warmth, initiative, and follow-through, and you know how to create spaces where
people feel welcome and supported.
● Experience: At least 2 years’ experience in event coordination, project management,
administration, or similar hands-on delivery roles.
● Capability: Strong planning, time management, problem-solving, and the ability to
juggle multiple priorities. A current drivers licence is required (and own vehicle
preferred) as our events will take you all over Ōtautahi!
● Communication: Excellent written and verbal communication, with the confidence to
build strong relationships across diverse communities.
● Community connection: A strong understanding of Aotearoa’s rainbow and Pacific
communities. Lived experience or knowledge of the not-for-profit sector is highly
valued.
Why Join Moana Vā?
● Meaningful impact: Your work will help create safety, belonging, visibility, and joy for
our communities.
● A values-led team: You’ll work alongside people who care deeply about community,
integrity, and doing the mahi well.
● Room to grow: This is a chance to step into a trusted, high-ownership role where your
ideas and initiative will matter.

Moana Vā - Navigators of Pacific Pride, was established to identify and address the needs of Pacific Rainbow+ LGBTQIA+ MVPFAFF+ (mahu, vakasalewa, palopa, fa’afafine, akava’ine, fakaleiti (leiti), fakafifine) communities in the Canterbury Region. We aim to provide support, advocacy, and mentorship for our Pacific Rainbow+ communities and acknowledge the challenges of living in a region that is systemically conservative, enabling unconscious racial bias and stereotypes of our members and their families. Through our social platforms, Moana Vā also offers a safe space for those connecting online from around the globe.

Pacific Rainbow+ communities are rebuilding, and Moana Vā is the conduit by which we may connect or reconnect, share aspirations, goals, stories and create narratives to be heard and pass on to our future allies. We will do this not only by being a support group but also a provider of information and access to services addressing the needs of our community.
