South Kaipara Good Food Trust (SKGF) is a respected local community organisation working to improve food security, wellbeing, and community resilience across South Kaipara. Our work includes rescuing and redistributing food, supporting families experiencing food insecurity, providing seedlings, teaching food-growing skills, and helping local households become more food resilient.
As the Trust continues to grow its impact, we are looking for passionate, community-minded people who can help guide the organisation strategically and strengthen our governance for the future.
A strong connection to South Kaipara is strongly preferred. We may also consider applicants from nearby areas where they bring skills or experience that would strengthen the Board.
Skills and experience we are looking for
We are particularly interested in people with skills or experience in one or more of the following areas:
- Governance, board leadership, or chair/deputy chair experience
- Law, risk, compliance, or charitable trust governance
- Finance, accounting, audit, or commercial management
- Fundraising, sponsorship, grants, or business partnerships
- Local community leadership, community networks, or volunteer leadership
- Social services, health, mental health, education, or community development
- Communications, marketing, advocacy, or stakeholder engagement
- Food systems, sustainability, horticulture, farming, or local food production
You do not need to have all of these skills. We are looking to build a balanced Board with a mix of governance, professional, community, and lived experience. We are also keen to hear from people of different ages, backgrounds, and areas of community involvement, so the Board reflects the wider community SKGF serves.
This is an opportunity to
- Contribute to a purpose-driven organisation making a real difference locally
- Help guide the future direction of a growing charitable trust
- Support practical initiatives that improve food security, wellbeing, and resilience
- Bring your skills, networks, and community knowledge to a committed Board and leadership team
The Trustee role is voluntary. The Board currently meets monthly, with in-person participation preferred where possible and online attendance available when needed.

SKGF are leaders for change. Through our thoughtfully designed programmes and working alongside our community, SKGF believes in supporting whānau who are on a journey, and not simply being the ambulance at the bottom of the cliff.
Using wellness assessments, budgeting education and the support of more than 30 local agencies, SKGF are able to guide our clients and community to achieve real and lasting change. We offer wrap around supports to each whānau and take pride in our collective approach to wellness and kai security.
In FY2025, we distributed 6,883 packs to 1,479 families.
Over 134 participants have attended sessions this year, often co-hosted with local groups and schools.
We believe in working with our community on how to make good food choices, grow food sustainably, work with food rescue and zero waste programmes and other special interest topics as may arise.
South Kaipara Good Food is one of 36 members of the Aotearoa Food Rescue Alliance (AFRA) and is committed to preventing nutritious edible food from going to landfill.
Food is a basic human right, yet in New Zealand, billions of dollars of edible food is wasted each year. It is diverted to landfills – while one in five children live in households facing food insecurity.
