Rotorua Trails Trust is the registered charity that maintains more than 300 kilometres of free biking, walking, running and horse-riding trails in Whakarewarewa Forest. Its Board includes trustees appointed by iwi and hapū organisations, Rotorua Lakes Council and the Rotorua Mountain Bike Club.
The Board is looking for a voluntary Chairperson to guide the Trust through its next stage. You will lead the Board, help trustees agree priorities and track progress, and oversee financial sustainability and risk. Much of the role is about people: building trusted, long-term relationships with mana whenua, the landowners, Council, funders, sponsors, volunteers and the trail community.
You will bring experience chairing a board or governance committee, an understanding of how charitable trusts are funded, a strong record of building lasting stakeholder relationships, and the ability to read financial statements and ask informed questions.
The Board meets every two months in Rotorua, with preparation beforehand, and the new Chair will have a full induction. We welcome applications from people of all backgrounds and communities.
To apply, send your CV and a cover letter, outlining what draws you to the role, what you would bring to the Board, and any actual, potential or perceived conflicts of interest, to Kaycie O'Connor at kaycie@definenz.co.nz by 5pm on Friday 20 November 2026. Kaycie is supporting the Board with this appointment. For a confidential conversation about the role, please call 027 529 2430.
