Job Description

  • Lead and advocate for New Zealand’s podiatry profession
  • Ongoing management services contract averaging approximately 25 hours per week
  • Flexible, home-based role that can be undertaken anywhere in New Zealand

Podiatry New Zealand is the national membership organisation representing and supporting podiatrists across Aotearoa New Zealand. With approximately 385 members, it works to advance the profession, provide practical support and professional development, and ensure the value of podiatry is understood by decision-makers, the wider health sector and the public.

The organisation is in a sound position, with an established strategy, strong reserves and valued relationships with members, government agencies, the Podiatrists Board of New Zealand, commercial partners and other health-sector stakeholders.

About the role

Reporting to the Board, the Chief Executive will provide strategic leadership while remaining closely involved in the organisation’s day-to-day activities. You will lead the delivery of Podiatry New Zealand’s strategic priorities, represent the interests of the profession and ensure members continue to receive relevant, responsive support.

This is a broad and varied role encompassing advocacy, stakeholder engagement, member services, communications, financial oversight, governance support and organisational management. You will build productive relationships across the health sector, provide the Board with quality advice and reporting, oversee Podiatry New Zealand’s services, resources and administrative support, and maintain strong connections with members throughout the country.

What we’re looking for

You may already be an experienced Chief Executive, or a senior leader ready to step into your first CE role. You will have the confidence and credibility to represent a national profession, work effectively with the Board and engage with people at all levels.

You’ll bring:

  • Significant leadership experience within the not-for-profit sector, ideally including a membership organisation
  • Excellent communication, advocacy and relationship management skills
  • Experience leading people with a clear, supportive and collaborative style
  • Experience working with, reporting to or advising a Board
  • Strong financial and commercial acumen
  • The ability to move comfortably between strategic and operational priorities
  • Sound judgement, political awareness and a pragmatic approach

Why join Podiatry New Zealand?

This is a varied and rewarding leadership role offering the opportunity to make a visible contribution to an important allied health profession. You will lead with autonomy, build influential relationships across the health sector, and benefit from the support of an engaged Board and a comprehensive handover from the current Chief Executive.

This is a home-based role that can be undertaken from anywhere in New Zealand, with some domestic travel required.

The incoming Chief Executive will be engaged under an ongoing management services contract. The role is expected to require an average of approximately 25 hours of CE-level input per week across the year, with peaks and troughs in workload, including additional hours around conferences or significant sector issues.

The arrangement will also include responsibility for providing or coordinating the administrative support required to operate the organisation. The overall structure, resourcing and management fee will be agreed with the appointee.
