About us
Live Ocean's vision is a healthy ocean for a healthy future. We scale up science, innovation and outreach to support ocean conservation and restoration. Founded by champion sailors Blair Tuke and Peter Burling, we partner with exceptional New Zealand scientists and innovators to fund action for the ocean, and use the platform of sport to take that message to the world.
The role
This is a rare opportunity for a marine conservation leader. We're looking for an experienced Impact Manager to lead the next chapter of our conservation programmes. You'll work with our science advisors, partners and leadership to select and shape high-impact projects, secure the funding to help them to scale, and showcase impact through credible metrics and strong storytelling. You'll join a small, driven team where your work directly helps great people and ideas to move the dial on ocean health.
Key responsibilities
Help to shape conservation priorities and programme plans with the CE, science advisors and Board.
Scope and co-develop high-potential projects with scientists, innovators and conservation partners.
Lead programme fundraising, from applications and pitches to long-term funder relationships.
Set up partner agreements, budgets, milestones and risk management, and oversee delivery.
Build impact metrics and monitoring, and report to funders, the Board and in our annual Impact Report.
Turn science into powerful stories with our Comms & Digital team, and represent Live Ocean at events.
Build relationships with scientists, iwi and hapū, universities, conservation groups and communities, bringing mātauranga Māori and science together.
About you
8+ years in ocean or environmental conservation, science-based programmes or the not-for-profit sector, including senior programme leadership.
A proven track record of securing significant funding from philanthropy, trusts, foundations or government.
Experience designing programmes with partners, including theory of change, budgets and outcome frameworks.
Confidence setting up impact measurement, monitoring and reporting.
Strong relationships across the marine conservation sector.
Clear, compelling writing that makes complex science easy to understand.
A strong understanding of te ao Māori and commitment to Te Tiriti o Waitangi.
A background in marine science, ecology or environmental policy (bonus).
Experience in engaging with Iwi and hapū, and confidence with tikanga and te reo Māori (bonus).
Experience with international grant applications, such as US foundations (bonus).
We will be screen applications through October. Send your CV and a short cover letter telling us why this role excites you to admin@liveocean.org.
Applicants must have the right to work in New Zealand.
