Penina Trust (commonly known as Penina) is a Pacific organization specializing in providing mental health, wellbeing and housing services in the community.  Penina has been in operation for over 20 years and constantly growing in both our housing and mental health spaces. 

About the Roles:

We currently have full time positions available for both Tenancy Agents and Housing Navigators. 

Note the ability speak fluently in one Pacific Island language is highly desirable in these roles. 

The role of the  the Tenancy Agent is to provide exceptional tenancy support liaising with tenants in our transitional and social housing housing sites. This role will require you to respond to referrals, conduct tenancy assessments, maintain updated rental records, book maintenance appointments, complete rental agreements, ensure rental payments are up to date, and liaise with stakeholders such as MSD, WINZ, Kainga Ora, Tenancy Services, etc. You will work as part of a team and will be required to drive between housing sites at times, so a full and clean driver's license is essential. 

Your day to day responsibilities will include:

- Undertaking initial assessments for people referred by WINZ for transitional and/or social housing.
- Liaising with current and potential tenants.
- Booking required maintenance work.
- Updating rental payment records and communicating with tenants regarding arrears.
- Building a sustainable network of community support.
- Establishing a rapport and maintaining good relationships with tenants/service users and their friends, whanau and other community support as appropriate.
- Working closely with relevant colleagues, community providers, clinical teams, contractors, and other external teams. 
- Building trusting and engaging relationships with tenants/service users
- Regularly attending and contributing to team meetings, bringing ideas and updating others on activities.

The role of the Housing Navigator is to provide dependable, in-depth assessments, planning and high level interventions and service co-ordination of wrap-around services to tenants and service users. Please note that our wrap around services include mental health support, therefore a Level 4 Certificate in NZ Health and Wellbeing is highly desired. You will work as part of a team and will be required to drive between housing sites at times, so a full and clean driver's license is essential. 

Your day to day tasks will include:

- Undertaking initial assessments for people referred by WINZ for emergency housing.
- Support tenants through identifying goals, navigating and connecting with sustainable community services for treatment, service provision, accommodation, work and education.
- Building a sustainable network of community support.
- Establishing a rapport and maintaining good relationships with tenants/service users and their friends, whanau and other community support as appropriate.
- Undertaking initial comprehensive strengths and needs assessments (matrix) for new tenants/service users.
- Undertaking final assessments and exit interviews for tenants/service users at the end of the 12 week support period (for transitional housing).
- Working closely with relevant colleagues, community providers, clinical teams, contractors, and other external teams. 
- Monitoring tenants’/service users’ levels of wellbeing.
- Building trusting and engaging relationships with tenants/service users
- Regularly attending and contributing to team meetings, bringing ideas and updating others on activities.

About you:

  • Level 4 Certificate with REINZ OR Level 4 Certificate NZ Health & Wellbeing (or willing to complete one of these qualifications)

  • Commitment to Te Tiriti O Waitangi and understanding of tikanga Māori.

  • Excellent interpersonal skills and ability to work with a wide range of people from diverse backgrounds, including proven ability to manage relationships with clients facing challenges such as homelessness and mental health issues.

  • Experience using Tenancy Management software (Re-Leased)

  • Good spoken and written English and an ability to speak at least one Pacific Island language as you will be working with predominantly Pacific service users.

  • Full and clean driver's license

  • A clean police record and must be able to pass all requirements for vetting of staff under the Vulnerable Children’s Act (VCA).

  • Be medically fit to work.

  • Must be able to legally work in New Zealand.

  • Minimum of 2-3 years’ experience working in property management or relevant field.

  • Knowledge of the Residential Tenancies Act 1986 as well as Acts & Regulations relevant to Property Management.

  • Have an understanding of the current issues facing people experiencing homelessness, including co-existing problems and or mental illness.
