Under the Stars is a Tauranga based charity delivering meaningful impact in our community. We are looking for a part time, contract General Manager to provide operational leadership and drive our financial sustainability.
We are recruiting again following our current GM's acceptance of an exciting opportunity but has offered to stay on through the end of 2026 to support handover and onboarding.
Reporting directly to the Board, you will oversee our Operations Co-ordinator and ensure our mission to support Tauranga’s homeless and in-need remains strong and well-funded. This is a critical "funding-first" role where your relationship-building skills will directly impact local lives.
With support from the Board, you will lead our premises relocation within the Council's 18 month notice period. This includes finding a suitable home, ideally retaining the services that operate alongside us, including Orange Sky, veterinary and medical services. A key part of the project will be developing a sustainable funding strategy for any future rent, as well as securing capital funding for necessary upgrades or fit out.
Researching and securing grants, developing donation and sponsorship streams to create sustainable income streams.
Building and maintaining relationships with funders, sponsors, and community partners.
Representing us at external meetings and building ties with local community groups
Overseeing the Operations Co-ordinator and ensuring effective service delivery
Working closely with the Board and Treasurer to align budget with our mission.
You have experience in the not for profit sector, ideally with a strong track record in grant writing and funding. You are a confident communicator, a self-starter who can manage your own time and someone who genuinely cares about community outcomes.
Proven experience in grant writing and funding management
Strong relationship building skills across community and funding networks
Financial literacy and the ability to manage budgets and forecasts
Experience in a leadership or management role
Knowledge of the Bay of Plenty community sector is an advantage
Send your CV and a cover letter outlining your relevant experience to recruit@underthestars.org.nz by 15 October 2026
