**Volunteer Opportunity: Help English Learners Gain Confidence!**
Do you want to make a difference in someone's life? Are you a friendly, patient person who enjoys chatting with others? If so, we need you!
**Join Us at 10 Minute English**
We're looking for volunteers to help new English speakers overcome the anxiety of speaking English. Many of our new English speakers feel embarrassed or shy when trying to communicate in English, often worrying about using the wrong words or speaking too slowly. But with your help, they can gain the confidence they need!
**What We Do:**
10 Minute English was created by a dedicated English teacher who noticed her students struggling with these feelings. Our platform allows new English speakers and learners to practice speaking English with native speakers in a relaxed, supportive environment.
As a volunteer, you’ll have casual conversations with new English speakers, providing them with the practice they need to improve their skills. Don’t worry – you don’t need to be a teacher! We’re just looking for everyday people who want to help others.
**Why Volunteer?**
• Make a positive impact on someone's life
• Help others overcome their fears and gain confidence
• Connect with people from around the world
• Be part of a supportive, encouraging community
• Support the wider for of the Rural Youth and Adult Literacy Trust
•
**How It Works:**
English learners book 10 minutes a day to have a video conversation with volunteers. 10 minute talks are designed to be quick and effective, a convenient way to fit language practice to their daily lives.
Your conversations will be a crucial part of helping learners feel comfortable and capable in their English-speaking journey.
10 Minute English learners will pay a small fee to have conversations with volunteers. These fees will cover the cost of providing the platform and provide a revenue stream to support the work of the Rural Youth and Adult Literacy Trust. (Refugees and immigrants on low incomes will get the service for free.)

Free. Confidential. One-to-one. At the learner's own pace.
The Rural Youth & Adult Literacy Trust (RYALT) is a nationwide charity providing free one-to-one literacy and numeracy support to rural and isolated teenagers and adults across Aotearoa New Zealand.
We believe everyone deserves the opportunity to read, write, communicate, and participate confidently in everyday life. Through our dedicated team of volunteers, we support learners from the comfort of their own homes via phone, video conferencing, and face-to-face sessions where available.
Our volunteers help transform lives by building confidence, independence, employment opportunities, educational success, and stronger connections within communities. Whether supporting students directly, helping with marketing, outreach, fundraising, or community engagement, every volunteer plays an important role in making literacy support accessible to those who need it most.
