About the role 

We are seeking an experienced Senior Financial Accountant to join our Wellington-based Finance team. 

Reporting to the Finance and Operations Manager, you will provide senior technical accounting expertise across financial reporting, budgeting, forecasting, consolidation, audit support, and financial advice. You will play a key role in preparing high-quality financial information, supporting governance reporting, maintaining compliance, strengthening finance processes and controls, and helping stakeholders understand and use financial information effectively.  

What you’ll be doing 

  • Preparing monthly journals, reconciliations, management reports, and year-end accounting work. 

  • Supporting annual financial reporting, including working papers, disclosures, financial statements, and audit requirements. 

  • Preparing budgets, forecasts, financial analysis, and management reporting. 

  • Leading and supporting the annual PCANZ Group consolidation process. 

  • Providing technical accounting advice to internal stakeholders, congregations, and presbyteries. 

  • Preparing financial reports, commentary, and supporting papers for management and governance. 

  • Supporting improvements to finance systems, processes, documentation, controls, and reporting.  

What we’re looking for 

  • Chartered Accountant (CA, CPA or equivalent) qualification. 

  • Significant financial accounting and reporting experience. 

  • Strong technical accounting knowledge and analytical skills. 

  • Advanced Excel and data analysis capability and experience with accounting systems such as Xero. 

  • The ability to communicate complex financial information clearly to non-financial audiences. 

  • Sound professional judgement, strong attention to detail, and the ability to manage competing priorities in a small team environment. 

Experience in the not-for-profit, charity, church, or public benefit entity sector, consolidation across multiple reporting entities, and knowledge of PBE accounting standards would be advantageous.

$110,000 - $115,000 pro rata (depending on experience)
