Qtopia is looking for someone with the experience and passion needed to develop and lead community development initiatives alongside delivering 1:1 peer support directly to Waitaha's trans and gender diverse communities.
Qtopia is a social support service for LGBTTQIA+ (Lesbian, Gay, Bisexual+, Trans, Takatāpui, Queer, Intersex, Allies, +), SOGIESC (Sexual Orientation, Gender Identity, Expression and Sexual Characteristic) diverse people, their whānau, and their communities, creating lasting positive social change through education, advocacy, support, and celebration.

The Peer Support & Community Development Specialist will strengthen and grow Qtopia’s community development work, supporting cross-sector collaboration, whakawhanaungatanga and relationship building, and contributing to advocacy that strengthens Waitaha’s LGBTQIA+ communities and supports them to grow. It will also support the wellbeing and connection of trans, non-binary, and questioning people of all ages through a peer support programme primarily through the Te Whatu Ora Waitaha Transgender Wellness Package.
We're looking for someone with strong experience across peer support and community development - for us, those roles go hand-in-hand. The person we're looking for will have prior experience offering peer support to trans and non-binary people, excellent people and relationship management skills, the ability to work with a high level of independence, and a robust understanding of the needs of Waitaha Canterbury's rainbow communities. Prior experience with advocacy or community development initiatives is highly desirable.
Most of all, you'll be passionate about Qtopia's kaupapa and values, and have a commitment to inclusion, equity, and supporting Aotearoa's rainbow communities.
This role is for 30 hours per week. Qtopia is an organisation that honours work-life balance and flexible working. Hours and remuneration can be negotiated with the successful candidate. Interviews may begin prior to ad closing, with the right candidates.
