Job Description

About us

Gift Collective is a project run by The Gift Trust, a registered charitable trust with over 17 years of experience in the charity sector in Aotearoa and a track record of managing millions in philanthropic funding.

Gift Collective’s kaupapa is to support projects with a charitable mission in Aotearoa, who don’t have registered charity status, by providing a ‘fundholding’ service. Fundholding is where a registered charity receives funding on behalf of an unregistered group and does all the due diligence to ensure it’s spent on the charitable purposes as outlined. We receive funds, send receipts to donors, record how much groups have to spend and then allow them to spend it, as long as it's for their charitable purpose, checking receipts and invoices. We provide a back-end finance function so these groups can focus on their core mahi. Gift Collective provides the legal infrastructure so that grassroots community groups can apply for funding without having to register or manage their own charity. Position context and purpose

Gift Collective is a 5 year old project run by The Gift Trust. There are currently seven people in the wider Gift Trust team, with three working specifically on Gift Collective. This role would be ad hoc support for this team, specifically regarding funding applications. As The Gift Trust is the legal entity behind these 170 groups, we are named on funding applications and our charity details are used. Because of this, we need to review every draft application before it is submitted, to make sure we are represented correctly, to make sure budgets are presented reasonably and to make sure funder requirements are met. The role will not involve writing applications, but liaising between the funder and the applicant and supporting the applicant to put in the correct detail. Your role will involve ensuring The Gift Trust is represented correctly and on occasion submitting the applications depending on funder requirements. You may also be involved in chasing applicants for accountability reports and ensuring these deadlines are met.

Your responsibilities

  • Reading draft funding applications

  • Advising on changes that should be made

  • Ensuring that funder requirements are met

  • Liaising with the applicant to get the application to a submittable stage

  • Liaising with funders to check their processes

  • Submitting some applications (for funders that prefer applications to come from us, as the legal entity)

Key skills and characteristics

  • Great customer service and communication skills. You’ll enjoy working with a wide variety of people and helping them.

  • Experience as a professional fundraiser, with grant writing skills and knowledge of the grant funding sector

  • Organised and efficient

  • Great attention to detail

  • Comfortable with technology, using platforms and task management systems

  • Passion for mission-driven social impact work

  • Appreciates collaborative and transparent ways of working

  • Experience in the charity sector preferred

  • Knowledge of te reo Māori and te Āo Māori, while not essential, is preferred

What we can offer you

  • A role with a values-led non-profit organisation that has purpose where you can feel you are making a genuine difference.

  • A flexible working environment where you can work the hours around your own schedule. Some weeks there could be no work, other weeks there could be up to 10 hours worth of work.

  • A great team culture that is collaborative, innovative, fun and action-orientated. We value new ideas and love to innovate.

  • We are in a growth phase so you’ll be joining us at the perfect time to make your mark.
