Social Media Content Creator / Coordinator (Volunteer)

Job Description

Volunteer in a role where your ideas are welcome, you’re given clear tasks and support, and your mahi is visible to thousands of people.

Our not-for-profit organisation inspires people across Aotearoa to take climate action in simple, achievable ways.

We’re looking for volunteers to help run our social media accounts. You’ll be supported by our Social Media Team Lead and join a wider team of climate activists, writers and scientists.

Who should apply

Previous experience with social media or content creation is awesome — but not a must! We’d love to hear from anyone who’s excited about our kaupapa and willing to learn.

We’re looking for a time commitment of 2 or 3 hours per week, plus the occasional remote team meeting.

We strongly encourage applications from people who are often underrepresented, including those with disabilities, neurodivergent people, Māori, Pasifika, LGBTQIA+ individuals, and people of colour. We appreciate the value your perspective brings, and we’re committed to learning from you and doing our best to meet any access or support needs.

What you’ll be doing

Your volunteer work could include:

  • Capture photos and videos
  • Edit photos and videos
  • Create graphics on Canva
  • Write captions
  • Schedule posts
  • Research hashtags and trends
  • Contribute to content ideas
  • Monitor our social channels on a rostered basis
  • Document content production and performance

We don’t expect you to do all of this (unless you want to!). We’ll do our best to assign you work that aligns with your skills or interests.

How you’ll make a difference

You’ll empower Kiwis to act on climate change — turning overwhelm and helplessness into clarity, purpose and a sense of community. You’ll help normalise climate action as an everyday part of life, showing that even 5 minutes a week can make a real difference.

Together, we’ll drive engagement for Climate Club’s:

  • #ClimateClubChallenge series — encouraging people to eat plant-based kai, shop second-hand, use active or public transport, and take civic action.
  • Weekly newsletter – recommending 5, 15 and 30-minute climate actions for busy people.
  • Science explainers – making complex climate science and systemic views easier to understand.
  • Workshops and events — promoting group workshops on climate change causes, consequences and actions.

How this role could boost your CV

Many people volunteer as a way to improve their career prospects while contributing to something meaningful. If that’s you, we’d love to support your career development.

In this role you will:

  • Create real, live work to put on your CV or portfolio
  • Have opportunities to pitch ideas and try out new skills
  • Get support and learn from senior colleagues
  • Gain insight into the not-for-profit and climate sectors
  • Have the opportunity to ask for a reference for your job applications
