General Manager

Job Description

You’ll lead Sustainable Queenstown (SQ) at both a strategic and operational level, helping keep our projects funded, our finances on track, and our contractor team enthused, supported, accountable and aligned.

This is a hands-on leadership role for someone with proven management experience, strong people skills, financial confidence, and a good understanding of sustainability and community action. You’ll help drive key projects including Green Drinks (monthly community events), DISHrupt (reusable serveware for events), SUCfree (single-use cup free campaign) and Resourceful Communities (programme includes Repair Cafes, Low Waste Workshops, Slow Fashion Month, Plastic Free July), while representing SQ across Queenstown Lakes.

Averaging up to 57 hours per month, with some busier periods around funding deadlines, reporting cycles and action plan delivery.

This role:

  • Starts immediately for 18 months.
  • Offers flexible working arrangements, with in-person availability required in Queenstown.
  • Requires your own laptop, phone and transport.
  • Involves funding, budgets, contractor oversight, board reporting and keeping SQ’s projects moving in line with our strategic plan.
