Job Description

Counties Manukau Sport | South Auckland | Permanent, Full-Time πŸ“ Hybrid (2–3 days on-site)Β  Reports to the Chief Executive

Make numbers matter for South Auckland communities

At Counties Manukau Sport (CMS), sport is a vehicle for something much bigger β€” belonging, wellbeing, opportunity, and community resilience. We work across South Auckland to ensure more people, particularly those who face the greatest barriers, can access the life-changing benefits of sport and active recreation.

We're looking for a Finance Manager who brings genuine craft to financial management and who equally cares about the why behind the numbers.

This is a rare opportunity to be the financial backbone of a high-impact regional sport and community development organisation, working closely with the CEO, leadership team, and Board to shape strategy and sustain the work that changes lives.

The role

As our sole finance professional, you'll have real ownership and real influence. This isn't a back-office role,Β  you'll be a trusted partner to operational teams, a key voice in strategic planning, and the person who keeps our financial governance tight so our mission can keep moving forward.

Your work will span the full finance function:

  • Leading day-to-day financial management, reporting, and cashflow
  • Working with external tax accountant and auditorΒ
  • Driving the annual budget cycle and providing scenario modelling and forecasting
  • Managing grant and funding accountability across a diverse funder portfolio
  • Ensuring compliance with statutory, regulatory, and IRD obligations
  • Presenting to the Board quarterly and providing CEO-level financial advice
  • Continuously improving systems, processes, and reporting capability

You'll translate financial performance into meaningful insights and you'll help managers across the organisation understand and use financial information with confidence.

Who we're looking for

You're a qualified finance professional (CA, CPA, or equivalent) with 5+ years of senior finance experience with strong business acumen, ideally within a not-for-profit, community, sport, or public sector environment. You're comfortable being the sole charge finance person, you know how to hold a function together and still find time to look up and contribute strategically.

Beyond the technical skills, you bring:

  • A genuine interest in the mission and social impact of organisations like CMS
  • The ability to communicate financial information clearly to non-financial colleagues
  • Strong relationship skills across diverse teams and communities
  • Commercial sharpness balanced with an understanding of community context
  • High integrity, adaptability, and a solutions-first mindset

Experience with grants management, funding contracts, and accountability reporting will be a real advantage.

Why Counties Manukau Sport?

  • Purpose-first culture β€” our work is grounded in equity, community, and genuine social impact
  • Strategic seat at the table β€” you'll work directly with the CE and Board, not buried in a reporting layer
  • Meaningful scope β€” sole-charge finance with real autonomy and influence
  • Flexibility β€” hybrid working with 2–3 days on-site, and some arrangement flexibility available
  • South Auckland β€” we're deeply connected to and proud of the communities we serve
