Job Description

Skylight is looking to fill a temporary counselling role to support our South Canterbury schools. We need a a qualified School Counsellor to support tamariki (Years 1–8) in some of our Ministry of Education funded schools in Timaru. This is a short-term casual role for 6+ weeks.  

You will work directly with children and alongside school communities to support wellbeing and resilience. Full safety checks are required for working with tamariki.

We are looking for someone who brings both professional skills and a passion for supporting tamariki:

  • At least 1 year of counselling experience
  • Strong understanding of grief, loss, and trauma in children, teens and whānau
  • Passion for supporting tamariki wellbeing
  • Relevant counselling qualification and NZAC registration (or equivalent)
  • Ability to work collaboratively with colleagues and school staff
  • Creative and flexible approach to supporting tamariki
  • Understanding of Te Tiriti o Waitangi and ability to work in bicultural and multicultural contexts
  • Comfortable working independently while part of a wider team
  • Full driver licence
