My disability support crew provide a range of support for me from intimate personal care to support with organisation and transport. The crew work with me at home, at work and in my community and are a valued and integral part of making sure my busy creative life runs smoothly. I need people who can quickly learn my daily routine but also help me navigate access challenges that come up in new situations and environments I move in. My own work ranges from teaching advocacy, writing, theatre and film making. While Wellington is my base I sometimes travel for work and require support from my team.
I offer:
Practical and important work ideal for someone local to Newtown or nearby suburbs
An hourly rate at living wage or above
A queer and trans and sex worker friendly employer
Training provided
Tasks include but are not limited to:
Showering, dressing and intimate personal care
Household tasks like cleaning and tidying in my room and shared spaces, dishes and laundry
Food preparation
Pet care
Driving me to and from events or helping with journey planning
Administrative support and managing time keeping
Being in the background or alongside to support at events, meetings or social situations.
You will be:
Ideally someone with disability support experience or transferrable skills
Able to support a disabled-queer adult
Someone who enjoys a varied work environment - the role has some elements of routine but I am often juggling multiple priorities and need people who can embrace a change of plans and think on their feet.
Able to work respectfully and with an awareness of privacy in my home
Organised, reliable and committed
Flexible
Able to adapt and problem solve
A good listener and clear communicator
Comfortable in new situations - able to step in or step back as needed
Body positive
You will have:
NZ working rights
A full clean driver's licence (or actively pursuing this)
Competency with Google Drive and Word processing
Strong administrative and organisational and communication skills
Experience in arts environments and social justice work is an advantage as these are my areas of work and the kinds of interesting environments you'll work with me in.
A casual team member needs to be responsive to my needs, which sometimes includes urgent personal care. Additional hours and extended shifts may also be requested to support me with responsibilities and adventures outside my regular routine.
You should expect to cover leave for other team members and be called on for shifts both in and outside the regular shift times. Team meetings and paid training sessions will be arranged as required.
While lots of the role is one on one, sometimes you will be required to communicate or work with other support workers, admin support, other people or systems supporting and working with me. Admin support may have access to personal details in order that they can act on my behalf to support smooth running of my life.
