About the role

We are looking for a Work Brokers in the following locations Auckland, Hamilton, Palmerston North, Wellinton, Nelson, Christchurch, Dunedin and Invercargill and Senior Work Brokers in Auckland and Wellington.

This is a unique opportunity to be involved in the establishment of the new Employment Services team at English Language Partners. We want to improve settlement for people arriving from refugee backgrounds and by combining the current work we do teaching English, with supporting refugees into employment, we improve the outcomes of both activities.

You will be part of a national team of 9 Work Brokers and 2 Senior Work Brokers reporting to the National Employment Manager, but you will also be embedded in one of our regional Centres. You will then be able to talk directly to those who teach the English language programmes.

An important part of your role will be to find employment opportunities for your job seekers. This will mean establishing strong relationships with the current employers in our networks but also building relationships with new employers. This may involve cold-calling and utilising your knowledge of local businesses.

You will also be identifying the specific needs and skills of your job seekers and working with the Centre staff to reduce the barriers that your clients may have to gaining full time, permanent employment.

You will assist them to prepare for work, writing CV's, applying for jobs, attending interviews and when they are successful, understanding their contracts and their rights as an employee. You will also help them with the practical considerations when starting a job e.g. transport and childcare.

But your work doesn't finish there. You will be providing back up support to both your job seeker and their new employer during orientation and in the first 6 months of their employment.

Who you are

  • You will ideally have a background in recruitment or sales
  • You will have a good understanding of the employment sector and also have a good local knowledge of the businesses in your area
  • Lived experience or an understanding of employment barriers facing job seekers with refugee background
  • You will be resilient and be able to move past the 'nos" that you get from employers until you get a "yes!"
  • You will be positive, courageous and innovative, as well as willing to go the extra mile for your clients.
  • You will have amazing interpersonal skills and be able to communicate and advocate well at all levels

If you are willing and able to make a huge difference to the lives of refugees and their families by helping them find fulfilling, long term employment, then apply now!
