Looking for a hands-on role where you can combine your love of bikes with meaningful community impact? We’re on the hunt for an enthusiastic and capable Bike Hub Coordinator to help run our local Bike Hub and support people to ride safely, confidently, and sustainably.

This is a part-time role with shifts across Thursday to Saturday (Hub hours are 10am-4pm)

About the Role

As our Bike Hub Coordinator, you’ll be supporting the local community with their bike repair and information needs, working alongside volunteers, and keeping the hub running smoothly day-to-day.

 

What You’ll Be Doing

Bike Hub and Repair Operations

  • Assist customers with advice and answer queries about biking
  • Provide hands-on support and guidance on basic bike maintenance and repairs
  • Advise on more complex repairs and refer to bike shops where appropriate
  • Ensure all bikes are in a safe operating condition
  • Promote bike safety and traffic awareness where possible
  • Support the Bike Hub Lead in guiding volunteers on site
  • Assist with coordinating e-bike loans, including bookings, user training, and returns
  • Help maintain the Bike Hub building and equipment

Hub Operations, Administration and Accountability

  • Take responsibility for the Bike Hub during each shift, including opening and closing procedures
  • Maintain accurate daily records, including financial transactions and usage data
  • Complete reporting and banking tasks accurately and on time
  • Handle cash with care, accuracy, and integrity
  • Manage day-to-day administration with attention to detail
  • Respond to email and phone enquiries in a timely and helpful manner
  • Use digital tools to support operations
  • Record and track information to support reporting and continuous improvement

Customer Service and Community Engagement

  • Create a welcoming and respectful environment for all visitors
  • Provide practical advice to support community members with bike repairs and maintenance
  • Build positive relationships with community members, volunteers, and visitors
  • Communicate clearly and respectfully with a wide range of people
  • Manage customer expectations during busy periods
  • Maintain a high standard of professionalism at all times

Adaptability, Initiative and Team Support

  • Work effectively in a busy, hands-on environment
  • Manage multiple tasks and competing priorities throughout the day
  • Remain calm under pressure and responsive to changing needs
  • Work independently and take initiative when required
  • Follow through on tasks and responsibilities
  • Support the wider team and volunteers on site

Relationship Management, Communications & Marketing

  • Support the Bike Hub Lead with engaging visiting groups and key stakeholders
  • Capture case studies and stories for marketing and promotional use

Health and Safety

  • Apply health and safety training in daily activities
  • Follow all health and safety policies and procedures
  • Identify and report safety issues to maintain a safe environment for staff, volunteers, and visitors

 

About You

You’re practical, people-focused, and love being part of a community space.

Essential skills:

  • Excellent communication and community engagement skills.
  • Ability to manage customer expectations during busy times.
  • General mechanical aptitude (especially bike-related).
  • Confident self-starter, capable of operating independently.
  • Basic computer literacy.
  • Passion for cycling and community involvement.

Desired skills:

  • Bike mechanic skills and expertise (training on the job will be provided)
  • Knowledge of local cycling routes and related groups/shops.
  • Retail/sales experience.
  • Experience overseeing volunteers.
  • Experience working in the community sector (ideally South Auckland)
