With around 2,400 registered architects, they are responsible for registering architects and maintaining the online register, investigating complaints, setting and maintaining professional standards, accrediting architecture degrees, and providing information to the public about their regulatory role.

We’re looking for an Executive Officer – Public Protection to support NZRAB’s small team by managing complaints and disciplinary procedures, and protection of title matters, while also assisting the Chief Executive with policy development, operational reviews, and project work.

This is a full time (40 hours per week) permanent position, reporting to the Chief Executive Officer, based in a centrally located office with amazing views of the Wellington harbour.

What you’ll do:

  • Respond to public enquiries and complaints about architects and help them to understand NZRAB processes
  • Manage the NZRAB's complaints and discipline procedures
  • Support and assist the Architectural Services Advisory and Investigating Panels
  • Initiate Competence Concern Reviews in conjunction with the Registration Manager, as required
  • Handle misuses of the protected titles "architect" and "registered architect," using an educative approach and legal action where necessary
  • Draft Board papers and complete all actions that arise from the Board within your scope of responsibility
  • Assist with the development and maintenance of NZRAB policies and procedures

What we’re looking for

  • 5+ years’ experience in an investigative, complaint handling or dispute resolution environment
  • A proven track record in a public sector regulatory/policy role, or in a similar senior role within a professional services organisation
  • An awareness and understanding of small statutory organisations alongside detailed knowledge of public sector processes
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills with a high degree of professionalism
  • Experience handling confidential or private information within appropriate protocols, with accuracy and attention to detail
  • Motivated and self-managing with a passion for solving problems, working smarter and doing things better to improve outcomes
  • A relevant tertiary qualification

Why join NZRAB?

This is an exciting opportunity to join a close-knit team and help shape the future of a growing professional association where no two days will ever be the same. You'll contribute to an organisation that values fairness, integrity, agility, and transparency. On top of meaningful work, NZRAB provides professional development opportunities, extra leave over Christmas and New Year and the flexibility to work from home one day a week.
