Volunteer Capability Partner

We are excited to be growing our National Volunteer Team and are looking for a Volunteer Capability Partner to join us, based in Wellington. Volunteers are central to how we deliver our services, supporting the independence of people who are blind, deafblind or have low vision across Aotearoa.

Building on the strong progress of our national volunteer strategy, we are now moving into a phase of scaling up volunteering across the motu. This role plays an important part in that ongoing work, helping to strengthen how we recruit, place, and support volunteers, while enabling teams across BLVNZ to do this confidently and consistently.

As Volunteer Capability Partner, you will lead and coordinate specialist volunteer recruitment in partnership with teams across the organisation, matching skilled volunteers to meaningful opportunities that support our clients. You will also work alongside staff to codesign and build capability, embed good practice, and support the effective delivery of volunteering services nationwide.

You’ll be part of a passionate and collaborative national team within the People Team, operating as a Centre of Excellence and working in partnership with stakeholders across the organisation to support the planned and sustainable growth of volunteering

This is a hands-on, influential role that combines strategic oversight with operational delivery, where you will:

• Lead and deliver targeted recruitment approaches to attract skilled and specialist volunteers
• Develop strong community and sector partnerships to grow a sustainable volunteer pipeline
• Partner with teams across BLVNZ to enable effective volunteer onboarding, compliance, support, and retention
• Support teams to embed consistent systems, processes, and best practice to support scalable volunteering services
• Use data and insights to inform planning, improve processes, and support decision-making
• Support the implementation of new and evolving volunteer services, ensuring they are set up for success
• Collaborate on quality assurance, monitoring, reporting, analytics, and continuous improvement

You are a confident and collaborative relationship builder who enjoys working in partnership with others to achieve shared outcomes.

You have a strong understanding of volunteer management and recruitment, particularly in specialist or skilled volunteer contexts. You bring a structured, process-driven approach, balanced with creativity and initiative and thrive in complex stakeholder environments.

You will have:

• Minimum of three years’ experience in volunteer management, recruitment or HR management experience
• Strong stakeholder engagement and partnership skills
• Experience with CRM systems, preferably Salesforce.
• Proficiency in MS Outlook, Word, Excel, PowerPoint, and online tools.
• Confidence working with systems, data, and reporting to support decision-making and continuous improvement.
• Analytical and problem-solving skills.
• A genuine commitment to best practice volunteering, inclusive and people-centred practice, and positive volunteer experiences
• Confidence engaging and partnering with a wide range of stakeholders
• Experience attracting, assessing, or placing people into roles, including skilled or specialist positions
• Strong organisational and process thinking, with the ability to bring structure and clarity
• This role requires regular travel around the Wellington Region and other locations across Aotearoa New Zealand.
