We are seeking people to join our Executive Council who are passionate about walking and keen to contribute to our vision of ‘More people choosing to walk more often’.
Ideally, you will have experience in governance, advocacy, and/or good knowledge of transport or health. However, we are also keen to hear from people who may be new to governance, have a passion for walking and a commitment to the vision and mission of Living Streets Aotearoa.
As a member of our Executive Council you will be required to attend monthly governance meetings, and contribute to furthering the strategic work of the organisation.
Key Responsibilities:
Attend monthly Executive Council meetings
Attendance once a year at a face-to-face weekend
Work with other members of the Executive Council to:
Carry out any motions approved at General Meetings
Develop policy and position statements
Ensure the organisation acts in accordance with its constitution and with the Incorporated Societies Act 2022
Carry out or supervise all other aspects of the Society's affairs except those carried out by Branches.
Contribute to or lead work aimed at achieving aspects of the Strategic Plan
Support the work of named office holders
Prepare fully for meetings including preparing and reading papers
Take the lead in an area of the strategic plan (to be agreed)
Contribute to working groups and activities where appropriate

While all our key officer roles are currently filled, please let us know if you have future interest in a specific role such as Secretary, Treasurer or President.
Successful candidates will be invited to be co-opted onto the Executive Council for the remainder of the 2025-26 year. Like all members of the Executive Council, candidates will then need to be nominated for election by the LSA membership at the AGM in August.
Living Streets Aotearoa (LSA) is the New Zealand organisation for people on foot, promoting walking-friendly communities. We are a nationwide organisation with members throughout New Zealand.
We want more people walking and enjoying public spaces be they young or old, fast or slow, whether walking, sitting, commuting, shopping, between appointments, or out on the streets for exercise, for leisure or for pleasure.
