ReliefAid is a New Zealand-founded humanitarian organisation delivering life-saving aid to families caught in war.

We work in some of the world’s most challenging environments, including Gaza, Ukraine, Syria, Afghanistan and Lebanon, delivering emergency support to families when and where it is needed most. We reach families quickly and effectively, often in places where others cannot or will not go.

Responsibilities

You will be working in our small, dedicated and passionate Management team, alongside our international operations team and volunteers. This is a hands-on, varied role combining communications, fundraising, media, and advocacy.

Your responsibilities will include:

Communications & Content

  • Lead ReliefAid’s communications across all platforms, ensuring consistent, high-quality messaging aligned with our values, branding and tone
  • Develop and deliver content across social media, website, newsletters, and campaigns
  • Manage and grow ReliefAid’s social media presence (posting, engagement, messaging, and community management)
  • Source, brief and manage content from international teams (case studies, images, video, quotes)
  • Write and produce donor updates, newsletters, and campaign communications

Advocacy & Media

  • Proactively seek opportunities for media engagement including pitching, responding to media enquiries, and preparing spokespeople
  • Identify and deliver advocacy opportunities aligned with humanitarian priorities
  • Draft advocacy materials including briefings, letters, and public messaging
  • Monitor global events and media relevant to ReliefAid’s areas of operation
  • Ensure advocacy remains consistent with ReliefAid’s neutral and humanitarian position

Fundraising & Donor Communications

  • Support external fundraisers with messaging, materials, and promotion
  • Produce donor reports and impact updates for key partners and supporters
  • Maintain strong communication with donors, fundraisers, and partners
  • Oversee Givealittle updates and donor communications

Stakeholder & Internal Communications

  • Manage the communications inbox and respond to public, donor, and other enquiries
  • Coordinate with international teams across time zones to gather information and content
  • Support board communications including regular updates
  • Work closely with leadership to align communications with organisational priorities
  • Provide communications support across the wider ReliefAid team

Operational & Day-to-Day

  • Maintain communication systems, databases, and content libraries
  • Regularly updating website and aligning it with current campaigns
  • Ensure timely processing of high-value donation receipts (in coordination with Finance)
  • Manage small team of volunteers and comms interns (e.g. content coordination, updates, comms guidance)
  • Assist with events, school engagement, and fundraising initiatives
  • Be responsive during emergencies, including drafting urgent communications and appeals

About You:

Essential

Values-driven individual with a strong commitment to humanitarian work

Excellent written and verbal communication skills, with a natural storytelling ability

Experience in communications, advocacy, media, or a related field

Ability and flexibility to manage multiple priorities in a fast-paced, dynamic environment

Strong attention to detail and ability to work independently as well as part of a team

Ability to build and maintain strong relationships with key stakeholders including media contacts, partners, donors and fundraisers.

Confident engaging with a wide range of stakeholders, including international teams

Some experience managing teams and effectively delegating tasks to deliver results

Able to work across time zones when required

Technologically literate with experience in tools such as Microsoft Office, Google Drive, Canva, Mailchimp and social platforms

Ability to handle sensitive topics with care, clarity, and neutrality

Legal right to live and work in New Zealand

Desired

Experience in the humanitarian or non-profit sector

Experience in advocacy, media relations or campaigning

Social media savvy with an understanding of tone, audience, and engagement

Basic video editing or content production skills

Postgraduate qualification in communications, international relations, development or similar

Job Summary

ReliefAid is seeking a Communications & Advocacy Manager to lead how we communicate our work and advocate for families caught in conflict. This is a hands-on role combining content, media, fundraising, and advocacy.

Salary

$75,000
