If you’ve visited the Rita Angus cottage in recent years, you’ll have noticed the glorious garden at the historic cottage. The Rita Angus Cottage Trust has been fortunate to have a dedicated group of volunteer gardeners maintain the beauty and colour of Rita’s garden. After almost a decade of service, these gardeners are moving on to other projects and locations.
We would love to hear from anyone who might be interested in taking up a semi-regular volunteer gardener role. Typically, we garden from around 9:30–11am on Thursday mornings (weather permitting) and share a coffee and chat before we head on.

Rita Angus Cottage Trust looks after the Thorndon cottage where the artist Rita Angus lived (now a Category 1 historic place). The Trust is a charitable organisation that was founded in the 1980s, and has always had the dual purpose of preserving historic Thorndon, while also offering space for contemporary artists to develop their practice. (It is used as an artist residency).
