This job is well suited to someone with an in-depth understanding of Te Ao Māori, who loves creating community, is driven and ready to get stuck in. 

Location: Pōneke (some travel may be required)

Reports to: Green Party Field Director

Hours: Full-time, 40 hours per week with frequent weekend and evening work

Term: Fixed term full-time until two weeks after the 2026 general election.

Salary Band:  $60,441.75 - $82,522  (based on collective agreement payscale) 

Purpose and Responsibilities

 

A cornerstone of our wider campaign strategy is to find and connect with Māori voters on both the Māori and General rolls, as well as those currently unenrolled and overseas. The General Election Māori Field Organiser will be responsible for coordinating the implementation of the Green Party 2026 campaign strategy to connect with Māori voters in Māori and general electorates. As part of delivering election success for the Green Party in 2026, the role holder will be responsible for building people power in the Māori volunteer base to connect with Māori voters via direct voter contact. This will include finding and upskilling lead volunteers in areas of phone calling, door knocking and building volunteer communities. The Māori Field Organiser will deliver training and run calling sessions for Māori electorates. The role will also have a focus on increasing Māori voter enrolment through campaign activities. It will include working with our campaign database and coordinating with other core staff and role holders such as candidates and members. Key responsibilities include:

  • Volunteer empowerment and recruitment

  • Volunteer training and event coordination

  • Voter contact coordination (door knocking and calling)

  • Management of data entry around voter contact events

The working hours are 40 hours per week. The member-driven nature of the organisation means that the General Election Māori Field Organiser will need to be available for evening and weekend training and meetings. Out of hours work will intensify in the weeks before the general election. If the employer has asked, and the employee agrees to work more than their usual hours of work in a week, the employee will get time off in lieu. 

 

Key Responsibilities

Including but not limited to…

Implement Māori focused campaign

  • Work with appropriate role holders and campaign staff to:

    • Select areas with high Māori residency  and develop local leaders for direct voter contact and enrollment.

  • Work with the Māori Communications Specialist to develop Māori focused scripts for event, door and phone contact.

  • Run Māori electorate calling. 

  • Run online training that is Māori focused.

Develop and manage a volunteer leadership team

  • Develop and support leaders in Māori campaigns across the motu and support them with training, team meetings and regular 1:1 meetings. 

Recruit and train volunteers:

  • Execute a volunteer recruitment strategy that will allow us to grow our movement and maximise the number of volunteers engaged in the campaign.

  • Deliver training which includes but is not limited to: Callhub, Political Conversations, Volunteer Recruitment, Door Knocking, NationBuilder and Train the Trainer sessions. 

  • Make 60 volunteer recruitment calls per day as needed.

Facilitate voter contact:

  • Support local leaders to run direct voter contact events. 

Manage and report on campaign data:

  • Ensure campaign supporter and voter data is kept up to date and secure and provide regular progress reports regarding KPIs. 

  • Ensure volunteer activities are measurable and results tracked

  • Seek opportunities to improve processes and practices. 

  • Prepare a final report for the Local Campaign and Field Director on future recommendations. 

Support Te Rōpū Pounamu and volunteers:

  • Connect members of the Green Party’s Maori membership group, Te Rōpū Pounamu to volunteers to local candidates and volunteer teams. 

  • Connect other volunteers to local candidates and volunteer teams.

  • Provide support for volunteer organisers on the use of Green Party online and ground-based election tools and tactics to achieve the campaign objectives.

Review and report on our field campaign

  • Work with other staff to prepare a final report on the Flaxroots Campaign, to include key recommendations for future campaigning in the area.

Other 

  • Undertake other General Election projects, as directed  by the Field Director, subject to capacity
