Join our team to play a pivotal role in Restorative Justice within the criminal justice system. 

Auckland Restorative Justice Trust (ARJT) is looking for dedicated individuals to fill the role of Court Co-ordinator to work in District Courts across Tāmaki Makaurau, either North Shore, Auckland or Manukau.

Auckland Restorative Justice Trust (ARJT) is a registered charitable Trust since 2009, a non-profit organisation contracted by the Ministry of Justice to deliver restorative justice services within the criminal justice system in the Auckland, North Shore, and Manukau District  Courts.

Our team of passionate professionals work closely with the courts, Police, and the community to facilitate meaningful conversations between victims and offenders, whānau and community members to repair harm caused by crime. 

Role Overview: Tirohanga o te Mahi

The Restorative Justice Court Co-ordinator is vital in promoting Restorative Justice within the court. This role involves RJ education when engaging with offenders and court staff while building relationships with key stakeholders in each court. 

Key Responsibilities:

  • Maintain a strong, supportive presence in court as a representative of ARJT.

  • Develop and sustain professional relationships with internal staff, judicial officers, police, and public defence services.

  • Coordinate and monitor court referrals and provide administration support ensuring timely preparation and submission of necessary reports and documentation to our RJ Facilitators.

  • Provide RJ information to victims, offenders of crime and their whānau within the court.

  • Monitor the progress and outcomes, including sentencing outcomes.

Principles and Compliance:

  • Uphold and advocate the principles of Te Tiriti o Waitangi, focusing on partnership, participation, protection, and Māori capacity building.

  • Adhere to health and safety protocols and manage any related incidents.

 Requirements:

To be successful in this role:

  • You must have a valid New Zealand driver’s licence

  • You must pass a Police check organised by ARJT.

  • Currently, one full time permanent position in Manukau District Court and opportunities for part-time casual contract positions in Auckland District Court and North Shore District Court.  

Experience & Skills:

  • Knowledge or experience in restorative justice practices is preferred

  • Familiarity with the New Zealand Judicial Court System.

  • Proficient in Microsoft Office applications.

  • Strong communication, planning, and time management skills.

  • Ability to work autonomously and collaboratively with diverse cultural groups, particularly Māori and Pacific communities.

  • Exceptional attention to detail with an emphasis on accuracy in all documentation and processes.

  • Ability to adapt to a variety of situations with self-awareness and professionalism.

  • Efficient management of multiple priorities, maintaining focus and productivity under pressure.

  • Capability to handle high caseloads and sensitive cases with composure.

  • Strong proficiency in both written and verbal communication, ensuring clarity and effectiveness.

  • Deep understanding and respect for diverse cultures, practices, and beliefs.
