About the Role

Established in June 1848 by Pope Pius IX, the Archdiocese of Wellington (ADW) office supports the mission of the Catholic Church, with a particular focus on the role of the Archbishop of Wellington. The Archdiocese covers 23 parishes and 40 Catholic schools across Central New Zealand, stretching from Levin and Masterton in the north to the southern boundaries of Kaikoura and Westport. Archbishop Paul Martin SM is the current Archbishop of the Archdiocese of Wellington.

Reporting to the Senior Financial Accountant, you will be responsible for providing high-level finance or accounts administration and support, ensuring that payments (accounts payable) are managed accurately and promptly. The role will also involve data and systems analysis, documentation, preparing reconciliations and project-related work, contributing to systems and process improvement.         


Key responsibilities:

  • Oversee end-to-end accounts payable processes for ADW branches and entities
  • Ensure accurate and timely entry of invoices and coding into the accounting system (MYOB Advanced)
  • Collaborate with directors, managers and staff to verify and gain signatory authority for payments
  • Prepare monthly credit card reconciliations and process staff reimbursements
  • Track and raise invoices for on-charge bills
  • Perform debit/credit adjustments to maintain balance in the ledger
  • Respond to supplier enquiries with clarity, friendliness and timeliness
  • Build and maintain positive working relationships with the Finance team, ADW staff and across the wider organisation (schools, parishes, project leaders, etc)
  • Contribute to continuous improvement in systems, processes, and policies, and participate in small project-related work as required.

What we’re looking for:

  • Proven experience in finance or accounts assistance, officer or support roles, and/or relevant qualifications (or working towards a degree) in finance or accounting
  • Experience in system and process documentation
  • Strong analytical mindset with the ability to think critically
  • Excellent interpersonal communication and relationship-building capabilities
  • Inquisitive, solutions-focused, and adept at problem-solving
  • Highly organised, process-driven, and methodical in approach
  • Tech-savvy with familiarity in MYOB Advanced, Excel, and MS Office 365
  • Detail-oriented with a high level of accuracy
  • Positive, friendly, adaptable and a can-do team player
  • Motivated, initiative-driven, eager to learn and quick to pick up new concepts.

This is an initial 12-month fixed-term contract, offering 30 hours across 4 days per week, with the potential for the contract to be extended. This is an office-based role, offering a salary of up to $65,000 per annum (pro-rated) depending on experience, along with flexible working arrangements so you can choose your hours and balance work with life.
