POSITION: Kaihāpai Pouako Hapori - Community Education & Advocacy Worker
HOURS OF WORK: 22.5
TERM: Permanent
SALARY: $67,565 - $71,788 Pro rata
The Pou Whirinaki – Services to Māori team are looking for an experienced Educator/Advocate. Pou Whirinaki is a team at Community Law Wellington and Hutt Valley (CLWHV) that is dedicated to providing legal services to Māori. We are looking for an experienced worker with the right skills to deliver legal education sessions and advocacy support services to our Māori whānau. The successful candidate will be responsible for assisting in leading the legal education program in our community. This includes delivering on marae, kura kaupapa and in a range of other different settings. You will also be responsible for providing advocacy support services to Māori clients in the Wellington, Porirua and Hutt Valley areas.
We are looking for someone who is:
- Passionate about working with Māori and providing pathways for better outcomes.
- Dedicated to improving access to justice for Māori and for whānau, hapū and Iwi
- Well imbedded in Te Tiriti o Waitangi
- Confident in their ability to work independently out in the community
- Able to build and maintain relationships with Māori, Māori service providers and Māori community groups
- Able to demonstrate the use of Tikanga Māori and Te Reo Māori in their work
- Has proven experience in delivering education programs or has held a previous role in education
- Confident with public speaking and able to engage with their audiences
- Has experience in advocating for people in a range of different situations, including government agencies
- Able to drive and holds a minimum of a Restricted Driver License
