GirlGuiding New Zealand seeks to appoint up to three co-opted Board members.
The Board acknowledges that if it is to be a champion of gender diversity in New Zealand then the Board should also be diverse. We welcome applications from individuals with diverse backgrounds, skills, and perspectives (including gender, ethnicity, age, religion, disability status, and professional experience) to strengthen decision-making, innovation, and our relevance to young people today.
Young people growing up in New Zealand and globally face a number of challenges and barriers. Girls today expect to participate meaningfully in decision-making, be seen and heard and receive guidance as they navigate these challenges. As New Zealand’s largest girl-led organisation, GirlGuiding New Zealand is committed to speaking confidently and knowledgeably on issues affecting girls and young women.
We are a non-profit organisation where girls can be girls, where they explore and develop their passions, contribute to their communities, and form lasting friendships in a safe and positive environment. We offer a non-competitive, values-based learning environment, which encourages confidence, adventure, and leadership. We are part of a global movement making a difference to over 11 million girls and young women in 153 countries.
As an organisation with a proud history of more than 110 years, we have, like many organisations, faced challenges in the years following Covid. The current Board is focused on ensuring the organisation is positioned with firm, sustainable foundations for future growth and success.
We are seeking to co-opt Board members who are passionate about empowering girls and young women and who will support them to take a lead in decision making. Ideal candidates will have diverse experience and the ability to provide strategic direction within a governance context. Applicants must be able to work collaboratively in a team environment.
To complement our current Board, candidates should demonstrate a combination of the following:
