You’ll help the team unload the vans when they return from food rescue runs and get everything sorted, weighed, and stored correctly. The Volunteer Warehouse Assistant supports Fair Food’s operations to ensure surplus, fit-to-eat food is collected, sorted, and distributed safely and efficiently.
Time:
You don’t need to commit to every shift, even one day a week is incredibly helpful and appreciated.
Tasks include:
Unloading crates from trucks
Weighing rescued food
Sorting food into categories (chilled, frozen, dry, produce)
Stacking and organising crates
Helping keep the warehouse tidy and flowing

Fair Food is Auckland’s first food rescue operation. Fair Food collects fit-for purpose surplus food from the food industry and distributes it to groups who work with people in need. Connecting food business donors with the community sector is an ongoing positive engagement activity which is strengthening communities over the long term.Fair Food has directly impacted the lives of greater than 500 families each week since February 2012 by providing them with a regular source of fresh fruit and vegetables at no charge. By collecting, sorting and redistributing over 100,000kgs of surplus food per annum, Fair Food has saved 33 million litres of water and reduced greenhouse gas emissions by 990,000kgs as a result of landfill reduction since February 2012.Fair Food is developing communities, will provide education programmes, is cementing business partnerships and has a vision to develop a social enterprise.
