Help us tell our stories. WORD Christchurch is looking for an enthusiastic, efficient and creative part-time Marketing & Events Coordinator to join our small but mighty team in Ōtautahi Christchurch. This is a great chance to help shape the voice of a vibrant festival in our city.
No day is the same at WORD HQ. From designing e-newsletters that drive ticket sales to updating our WordPress site and supporting our programme delivery, your work will directly connect our audience with writers.
The mahi involves writing engaging copy. You’ll be creating social media posts, e-newsletters, listings and website copy, so quick and capable writing skills are a must for this role. You will use tools like Canva to keep WORD looking sharp.
An audience-focused mindset is key, as well as an eye for detail and a cool head under pressure. This is often a fast paced environment.
You’ll be a team player, skilled at building rapport; and highly organised with strong time management skills. You can work both collaboratively and autonomously, clearly communicating along the way. You’ll have a commitment to inclusion and supporting our creative communities.
This is a part-time (approx. 16 hours a week) role largely based at our office in central Christchurch with days and times worked to be negotiated. Our ideal candidate will also be able to work full-time in the month leading up to the festival - our 2026 dates are 1 - 6 September.. We’ll work with you to plan this in advance and any extra hours will be fairly compensated.
Salary: NZ$63,000 FTE
Hours: 0.4 FTE (Approx. 16 hours per week)
Fixed term for 2 years

WORD Christchurch boldly delivers high-quality festivals and events, bringing communities together through a love of words whether they read, listen or experience them on screen or stage. We bring the thrill of the live shared experience to over 10,000 people each spring during our festival. We are bold in our actions, and make the city buzz.
We give Christchurch audiences direct access to the best in New Zealand and the world, ground-breaking ideas, Ngāi Tahu stories, and opportunities for local writers & artists to create new work.
As we emerge from a decade of rebuilding, and look towards urban revitalisation and recovery from COVID-19, we’re in amongst it and playing an important role in the return of life to the city’s heart.
We know that words are powerful, emotive and sometimes a little bit dangerous right now so WORD is more relevant than ever.
WORD Christchurch is accessible no matter how much is in your wallet. In the 2023 festival over 20% of our events are free.
We love young readers and we help them flourish. Our free and low cost schools events expose students to writers that entertain and increase literacy levels while reducing barriers to participation.
