About the role

The Rangatahi Programme Coordinator supports a youth-directed rangatahi drop-in programme and holiday activities for intermediate-aged and younger secondary school rangatahi. This role focuses on creating a safe, welcoming and engaging environment where rangatahi feel supported, connected and encouraged to participate.

This is a relationship-centred, community-based role, working closely with rangatahi, the VCC Manager and Centre staff.

Key responsibilities

  • Support a weekly youth-directed rangatahi drop-in programme

  • Support delivery of agreed holiday activities

  • Build positive, consistent relationships with rangatahi

  • Be a reliable, supportive adult presence

  • Create a safe, welcoming and inclusive environment

  • Ensure rangatahi are safe, engaged and supported during sessions

  • Encourage rangatahi choice, leadership and participation

  • Use de-escalation strategies where needed and seek support appropriately

  • Support basic planning and coordination of sessions and activities

  • Maintain simple records related to attendance and activities

  • Communicate regularly with the Manager about programme delivery and emerging needs

  • Follow all Victory Community Centre health and safety, safeguarding and organisational policies

You enjoy working with rangatahi and are able to build strong, respectful relationships. You are calm, reliable and youth-focused, and can create safe, fun and engaging programme experiences. You bring a strengths-based, relationship-focused approach and work well both independently and as part of a small team.

Requirements

  • Experience working with rangatahi or young people (formal or informal)

  • Ability to maintain appropriate boundaries and confidentiality

  • Willingness to undertake and maintain a Police Check

  • Right to work in Aotearoa New Zealand
