About the role

We are seeking a warm, youth-centred Youth Worker to join our Social Services team. You’ll be a key point of connection for rangatahi accessing our services, creating a welcoming, safe, and inclusive space where young people feel seen, supported, and empowered to take positive next steps.

This is a varied, people-facing role blending youth work, front-of-house engagement, pastoral support, and programme delivery. You’ll work with rangatahi both informally and in structured settings, supporting wellbeing, engagement, and connection to education, training, whānau, and community.

What you’ll be doing

  • Creating a youth-friendly, safe environment that encourages engagement and connection
  • Providing pastoral support that promotes rangatahi wellbeing
  • Building trusted, respectful relationships in 1:1 and group settings
  • Managing a caseload of young people where required
  • Contributing to high-quality, youth-centred programmes that respond to needs and aspirations
  • Supporting accessible, engaging health promotion across Vibe sites
  • Working collaboratively with internal teams and external partners
  • Upholding professional, ethical, and reflective practice
  • Contributing positively to Vibe’s culture and collective impact

What we’re looking for

You’ll enjoy working alongside rangatahi and bring a calm, inclusive, strengths-based approach. Ideally, you have:

  • A warm, firm, mana-enhancing style that upholds rangatahi dignity and agency
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills, including the ability to navigate challenging situations sensitively and professionally
  • A commitment to learning, reflective practice, and continuous improvement
  • A qualification in Youth Work (or related field) or equivalent experience
  • Experience working with young people in community, education, health, or social services
  • Experience in developing, delivering, and evaluating youth development programmes or workshops

About Vibe

Vibe (Hutt Valley Youth Health Trust) is a Youth One Stop Shop providing free, confidential, and youth-friendly health and social services for young people aged 10 – 24.  Our services are designed with young people at the centre – accessible, inclusive and responsive to their needs.

This is a full time, permanent position (40 hours per week)
