Volunteering with the Speed Freaks
Are you passionate about exercise and running and keen to share this with others? This is how we create Speed Freaks Magic! Our Kaupapa- to increase health, wellbeing and connection. Supporting recovery from addiction and mental distress through the vehicle of running and walking.
We have volunteer coach opportunities in Greymouth, Westport and Hokitika - West Coast.
Our programmes are primarily delivered by groups of community volunteers who are passionate about exercise and running. Our volunteer coach led running and walking programmes operate in residential and community settings, with additional support provided by Speed Freaks staff as needed.
Volunteer coaches come from diverse backgrounds, but all share the joy of running and role model pro social, positive and healthy lifestyles. No running coaching experience is needed, we provide all the required training.
Our recruitment process includes an interview, police check, training, and shadowing local groups.
You will need to be able to commit to volunteering at least fortnightly for 60 mins, and to attend the required online training and initial shadowing.

The Speed Freaks Charitable Trust was established in 2021, by registered social worker Anna Christophorou. Our genesis group began in 2017 with the first run group at Odyssey House.
The Trust supports recovery from addiction and mental distress through running, walking and connection. Our programme grows community, health, wellbeing and inclusion, delivered by volunteers and paid staff.
