Role Description

This is a fantastic way to meet other amazing volunteers and ensure that every young person in New Zealand has somewhere to turn for support. We train, support and develop our volunteers to ensure they are confident and equipped to take on this challenging and rewarding role.

Helpline counselling involves 15 hours of duties every 3 months. Typically, a duty is two and a half hours any time between 8 am and midnight. You will be counselling clients over the phone and via text, webchat and email. All conversations are confidential.

Counsellors are required to complete written incident reports as needed. Counsellors will also receive fortnightly group supervision to discuss issues that frequently occur. Such issues might include relationships, self-esteem, mental health and family issues etc. A minimum commitment of 12 months from the end of the training and mentoring program is expected.

    Time Required

    7 days Mon-Sun 8 am-midnight. The volunteer chooses shifts.

    Training

    Personal development process is part of training. Training sessions are twice yearly summer and winter.
