Job Description

Everybody Eats is a multi-award-winning charity tackling food waste, food insecurity and social isolation in Aotearoa. We operate three innovative, charitable restaurants transforming rescued food into quality 3-course meals, for everyone to enjoy on a pay-what-you-can basis.

Since 2017 with the help of thousands of volunteers we've served over 250,000 meals from food that would otherwise go to waste, creating countless meaningful connections for our diverse community.

We are looking for two new board members to help us tackle food waste, food insecurity, and social isolation across Aotearoa. These are voluntary governance roles with a strategic and mission-focused remit.

We're looking for two candidates who bring:

  • A strong values alignment with our kaupapa and a commitment to food justice, sustainability, and community connection.
  • An ability to contribute positively to our board culture— collaborative, purpose-driven, and community-centred.
  • Fresh perspective and thoughtful, well-considered input to the board table.
  • Support the mahi of Everybody Eats as visible advocates and active contributors.
  • Reflect the communities we serve and uphold Te Tiriti o Waitangi in their governance practice.
  • Previous governance experience is helpful but not essential. Director indemnity insurance is in place.
  • (Either) Legal, risk, and compliance expertise — ideally with a pragmatic, right-sized approach that reflects the scale and risk profile of a small charity. A minimum of 5 years practising law is required.
  • (Or) Demonstrable fundraising experience — hands-on experience in revenue generation, donor engagement, or leading philanthropic fundraising efforts.

We are recruiting both roles at the same time to strengthen the board's collective capability and reflect a more strategic approach to succession.

Commitment required:

Board meetings: No more than seven per year (usually in the evening to accommodate existing commitments), around two hours each.

Additional sessions: One annual strategy session (five hours) and one Annual General Meeting (two hours).

Approximate total time commitment: 45 hours per year.

Initial three year term with the option to renew fora further three years.
