The Service Manager at Hōkai Tahi will oversee daily operations, ensuring the organisation’s financial and operational success while upholding its core values. Reporting to the Board of Trustees, this leadership role involves strategic planning, stakeholder engagement, team building, policy development, and service growth. The ideal candidate will have management experience in education, health, or community sectors, strong leadership and communication skills, cultural competency, and the ability to work independently. Flexibility, professionalism, and alignment with the mission of Hōkai Tahi is essential.
About Us
Hōkai Tahi supports women and their whanau journeying through pregnancy or baby loss, in any circumstance or at any stage. Our key services are pregnancy and baby loss support, support groups, and counselling. We are a small charity, with an annual operating budget of $150,000. Hōkai Tahi has been blessed with a dedicated team of Board members, community volunteers, and supportive funders.
Our Mission: To equip women and their whānau in the Wairarapa through all aspects of their pregnancy, by giving them the space, time and resources to make informed decisions, or to process the grief related to baby loss or termination, and come to a place of peace and hope.

Key Responsibilities:
· Provide strategic leadership to staff and volunteers, fostering a positive and high-performing team culture.
· Act as a key advisor to the Board of Trustees, providing insights and recommendations for strategic decision-making.
· Oversee financial management, including budgeting, forecasting, and financial reporting, to ensure the organisation's sustainability.
· Develop and implement policies, procedures, and operational strategies that align with the organisation’s mission and goals.
· Build and maintain strong relationships with funders, stakeholders, and community partners.
· Ensure compliance with relevant regulations, reporting requirements, and best practices in governance.
· Lead fundraising and grant application efforts to secure funding and enhance service delivery.
· Advocate for the Hōkai Tahi mission within the community and sector.
Key Skills and Qualifications:

· Proven leadership ability with experience guiding teams and initiatives.
· Experience advising Boards or senior leadership, providing strategic insights and recommendations.
· Expertise in financial management, including budgeting, forecasting, and financial reporting.
· Ability to work independently and collaboratively to achieve organisational objectives.
· High professional and ethical standards in a diverse workplace.
· Flexibility, resilience, and adaptability to change.
· Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
· Proficiency in technology and relevant systems.
· Strong analytical skills with the ability to assess situations from multiple perspectives.
· Effective delegation and team management skills.
· Strong multitasking abilities with a results-driven approach.
· Competency in te reo Māori me ōna tikanga Māori or a willingness to actively improve proficiency.
· Possession of a current, clean New Zealand full driver’s license.
This role will commence from August 2025.
