You will be part of our senior leadership team here at Hospice Whanganui, and responsible for leading our corporate and operations team including fundraising and stakeholder partnerships, retail operations, and marketing and communications. Your goal will be to lead and grow all our resource acquisition and development functions. You would be lifting our revenue and driving efficiencies throughout our service.

Ko wai mātou | About us

We are an engaging and vibrant group of people who are passionate about providing exceptional palliative care to around 350 patients and their whānau in our community every year.  As part of our strategic plan, we have developed a greater focus on delivery of services in the community, supporting our patients and their whānau in their own home for as long as is possible if that is their wish, whilst also offering in-patient services where needed for short periods.

Our philosophy is to work in a truly holistic and integrated way to meet the total needs of our patients and their whānau and to support them to live the best life they can with the time they have left.

We also work side by side with many other providers across our community, including General Practice teams, Māori health providers, home-care providers, residential aged care facilities, St John’s ambulance, and the hospital-based teams.

Mō te tūnga | About the role

At Hospice Whanganui, our services are free to all patients and whānau and we have a budget of around $4m per year.  Only around half of this is funded by Government, with the rest needing to be raised from the community. Our retail sector contributes around half of that, with the balance raised through community fundraising events and initiatives, grants, and donations.

The purpose of this position is to lead and grow all our resource acquisition and development functions.  This includes our relationship with our key funders. This position will also lead our retail and fundraising teams, as well as our operations team with the purpose of lifting our revenue and driving efficiencies throughout our service. You would be responsible for:

• Maintaining excellent relationships with our key Government and non-Government funding partners
• Lead and maintain relationships with our operational stakeholders
• Enhancing the income generating potential of our retail arm.
• Lifting our capability to raise funds through events and other community fundraising initiatives.
• Leading our operations team to optimise efficiencies across all corporate functions.
• Lead corporate audit functions and ensure our organisation is compliant with relevant legislation and quality policies.
• Providing sound HR and Financial support to the Senior Management Team

This is a 40 hour per week role worked over 5 days - Monday to Friday.

Mōu | About you

You will be an experienced Senior Leader with at least 3 years of experience leading teams in a not-for-profit, commercial, retail, corporate or fundraising capacity.

You will have excellent interpersonal communication skills which enable positive and meaningful relationships, and you will be excellent at problem solving and ideas generation. You will be able to delegate work effectively across the team, using a strengths-based approach and you will have an understanding of Te Tiriti o Waitangi and how to apply its principles in the work context
