Forest & Bird is New Zealand's leading independent conservation organisation. For over 100 years, we have been advocating and speaking out for nature on land and in our seas, as well as coordinating community-based projects throughout Aotearoa New Zealand.
We are looking for an experienced and committed national conservation advocate to join our national conservation policy and advocacy team. The team is made up of experienced, expert, national advocates and regional conservation managers across the motu.
We have a flexible work policy. This is a permanent, full-time role at 37.5 hours per week.
The new colleague we are looking for will have:
• Experience of policy and advocacy work in the New Zealand context.
• Expertise and experience in working with and influencing decision-makers from across government, communities and iwi.
• Strong environmental and conservation knowledge, in particular of New Zealand systems, legislation and policy (expertise around resource management would be a bonus);
• Excellent communication skills – both written and verbal.
• Confidence to lead workstreams on issues of national importance and collaborate with experts to develop positions and advocate on key issues.
• A willingness to get stuck-in and tackle complex issues, working collaboratively with colleagues and actively contributing to team mahi.
• A commitment to evidence-based policy and the ability to undertake research and analysis to back up advocacy mahi; and
• A solid grounding in project management and planning.
