Who are we?
SYHPANZ (Society for Youth Health Professionals Aotearoa New Zealand) is a small not-for-profit organisation with a big vision for All young people thriving in Aotearoa.
Our mission is to support and advocate for youth health kaimahi and for young people to have a say in decisions about their own health and wellbeing services.
We aim to:
· support young people to be at the centre of decision-making on youth health.

Job Description
Volunteer Treasurer on the SYHPANZ Board
The Treasurer plays a critical role in influencing our strategic financial direction. Key focus areas of this role include supporting the board by overseeing all financial administration, enhancing and updating financial policies and procedures, supporting the GM with the delivery of regular financial reporting and collaborating on new opportunities for grants and funding to ensure sustainable growth.
The Treasurer is responsible for making sure our organisation is in a healthy financial state, to ensure its ongoing viability.
The Treasurer works remotely as does all our amazing board and our wonderful operational team of six employees.
Key responsibilities as Treasurer
Strategic Financial management
· Develop and implement strategic financial plans to ensure the long-term financial stability and growth of the organisation.
· Collaborate with the Board to formulate strategies for income diversification.
Financial oversight
· Ensure that the finances of the organisation are managed appropriately and effectively and aligned with strategic goals.
· Provide strategic insights and recommendations to the Board regarding income, expenditure, and financial planning.
Financial reporting
· Work with the General Manager and Bookkeeper to prepare and present comprehensive financial statements at Executive meetings.
· Oversee the preparation of the annual financial statements ensuring they are undertaken in a timely fashion for presentation at the Annual General Meeting.
Budgeting and financial planning
· Lead the preparation of the annual budget in collaboration with the General Manager and board members.
· Develop medium- and long-term funding and finance strategies with the General Manager and board members to support organisational objectives.
Funding and grants
· Support the organisation to identify and explore new opportunities for grants and funding to enhance the organisation’s financial resources.
· Build and maintain relationships with potential funders and financial partners.
Operational financial management
· Approve payments and manage banking relationships as required.
· Ensure sufficient funds are always available to meet the organisation’s liabilities and operational needs.
Term on the board: Two years with potential for renewal
Time commitment
Approximately 10-16 hours per month including attendance at virtual board meetings every two months of up to one and a half hours each.
Required competencies and expertise
Ideally, the Treasurer will:
· have a Chartered Accountant qualification or relevant experience
· have experience in financial strategy, control, budgeting and modelling
· have experience in non-profit or charitable organisations in governance and financial reporting
· be able to allocate regular time to maintain financial records and
· have an understanding of, and alignment with SYHPANZ’s kaupapa and objectives.
