Your role here is pretty succinct and clear - it is to support a New Zealand social enterprise with Research and Advocacy to see if we can collectively ensure The Fair Transitions Bill and the Small Business Income Protection Scheme are put back on the agenda and firmly impressed upon any other Governments as worthwhile policy making.
Background:
The Fair Transitions Bill was just a twinkle in the eye of Politian's at the October 2023 elections. Government was forewarned about austerity and the wave of Ai was well known in supply chain/Industry 4.0 circles.
Enter 2025 and the auspices of a Fair Transitions Act would have saved a lot of management overhead and employee angst believed to include; access to a modest settlement if not afforded in a collective or Individual Employee Agreement and other niceties' like Career, Financial and EAP counselling.
Likewise the SME Income Protect Insurance Scheme administered by ACC across a modest worker and company levy would have save a lot of heartache for those who have lost their jobs through no fault of their own and complements accident compensation which we hope is incidental and not an expected part of life trauma:
We need someone to pick up these good ideas and get them back on the political and national agenda:
What will you do:
We will support you to do your work and resource you to be effective keeping in mind there will be supporters that can benefit this work in a major or small way.
So role up sleeves for something worthy and at it's heart democratic in nature.
This sits within the New Chapter / 0800 JOBS CLUB advocacy and social cause space and is our two policy hobby horse.
Consideration of the Fair Pay Agreements (Awards) could be added to the scope including Union liaison. It's your role - shape it!
