Fundraising Specialist

Full-Time Community Development

Job Description

  • Greenfields role – establish and bring SJS’ fundraising strategy to life
  • Make a positive impact on the lives of NZ students
  • Based in Wellington CBD; part time hours considered

Founded in 1982 to alleviate student poverty, Student Job Search (SJS) has grown into a trusted charity and advocate for students from all backgrounds. Every day, they bridge the gap between students and employers, offering a range of casual, temporary and permanent job opportunities. For over 40 years, they’ve inspired a diverse and productive workforce, contributing to Aotearoa’s long-term prosperity.

In this newly created role, you’ll play a pivotal role in executing a comprehensive fundraising strategy to secure new funding streams that advance SJS’ charitable mission. These new streams will include, but are not limited to, individual giving and creating a donor journey that utilises and builds on existing communications and structures, and developing an end-to-end process for grant applications and reporting, from researching and identifying opportunities to writing, submitting and tracking progress.

The team is highly collaborative, and you’ll work closely with key team members, including the CE, who will support you with valuable data, insights, graphic design, and communication resourcing to drive success. Your focus will be on translating strategy into action, ensuring results are achieved through effective collaboration and decision-making.

With no pre-existing fundraising structures in place, you’ll have the unique opportunity to build everything from the ground up, leveraging your expertise across a variety of fundraising channels.

You might be an established fundraiser, or someone with transferable experience in the charitable sector and looking to develop your skills in fundraising. In that case, SJS is happy to support you with a mentor and learning and development opportunities.

SJS is open to considering part time or full time hours (anything from three days per week).

Person profile:

  • Relevant experience in fundraising, sales and/or the charitable sector; experience in individual giving or grants would be advantageous
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills and a passion for developing fresh and engaging content
  • Exceptional relationship management capabilities and a proven track record of building and maintaining effective relationships with a wide range of stakeholders
  • Well developed project and time management skills
  • A strong team player
  • A self-starter, driven and highly self-motivated
  • Welcomes and values diversity and contributes to an inclusive working environment where differences are acknowledged and respected
  • A tertiary qualification is desirable
