Exciting operational opportunities exist within a kaupapa Māori organisation. Both roles are based on-site at the Ngāti Manuhiri Settlement Trust (NMST) office based in Warkworth.

Ngāti Manuhiri Settlement Trust (NMST) is a post settlement governance entity PSGE Māori organisation dedicated to delivering outcomes for our iwi through governance, environmental stewardship, cultural revitalisation, and economic development. Grounded in Ngāti Manuhiri tikanga, Te Tiriti o Waitangi, manaakitanga, and kaitiakitanga, we work to strengthen relationships with our whānau, hapū, stakeholders and wider community.

We are seeking two dynamic leaders to drive marine and environmental initiatives that protect taonga and uphold the values of Ngāti Manuhiri. If you have expertise in environmental or marine resource management and a commitment to kaupapa Māori, these opportunities are for you.

Kaiārahi Moana | Operations Lead - Marine - Reference - NM104

The Kaiārahi Moana will lead marine protection and compliance initiatives across Ngāti Manuhiri’s rohe moana. This role involves overseeing marine conservation projects, compliance patrols, and advocacy for marine biodiversity and sustainability.

Key Responsibilities and skills/experience required:

  • Develop and implement marine conservation and protection strategies.
  • Oversee marine compliance, including regulatory and legislative adherence.
  • Lead engagement with key stakeholders, including the Department of Conservation and regional councils.
  • Support marine environmental monitoring and reporting.
  • Integrate mātauranga Māori into marine protection initiatives.
  • Familiarity with digital tools and platforms for project coordination and database management.
  • Advanced working knowledge of MS office suite
  • A Commercial skippers license or certification is a must and preferably with a bachelor’s degree in marine science, Environmental Science, or a related field; or equivalent work experience at a supervisory level (10+ years).
  • Demonstrated understanding of Te Tiriti o Waitangi, te reo me ōna tikanga and its application to marine conservation.
  • Practical experience in marine monitoring, compliance enforcement, or habitat restoration.
  • Proficiency with GIS software, marine data analysis tools, and Microsoft Office Suite.
  • Experience managing marine-focused conservation projects.
  • Previous work experience in Te Taiao work, or RMA planning and project management would be an advantage.  

Kaiārahi Taiao | Operations Lead - Environment - Reference - NM105

The Kaiārahi Taiao will oversee land-based environmental management and conservation efforts, leading projects that restore and protect Ngāti Manuhiri’s natural resources.

Key Responsibilities and skills/experience required:

  • Develop and manage environmental conservation and restoration projects.
  • Lead environmental compliance and resource management initiatives.
  • Work with iwi, hapū, and government agencies to advance environmental stewardship.
  • Oversee environmental monitoring, policy development, and regulatory engagement.
  • Champion the integration of te ao Māori in environmental practices.
  • Experience in land conservation, environmental policy, or planning is advantageous.
  • Advanced working knowledge of MS Office suite, along with proficiency in project management and environmental monitoring systems (e.g., GIS or similar).
  • Exceptional organisational skills, with the ability to prioritise tasks and manage time effectively. 
  • Knowledge of Te Tiriti o Waitangi, and some proficiency in te reo me ōna tikanga Māori.  Exceptional organisational skills, with the ability to prioritise tasks and manage time effectively. 
  • Ability to take initiative and a proactive approach to tasks and projects.  
  • Excellent interpersonal skills, with the ability to work independently, and in collaboration as a team member.

  • Strong time management and decision-making skills.
  • Detail-oriented with the ability to work efficiently under pressure and meet deadlines.

  • Flexible and willing to travel as needed; self-starter with strong computer and organisational skills.
