Media Manager

Contract Marketing, Communications and Media

Job Description

  • Ongoing contract role – circa 30 hours per month
  • Ideally Wellington based (office is in Wellington), other NZ locations considered
  • Dynamic organisation with a lot going on

The New Zealand Veterinary Association Te Pae Kīrehe (NZVA) is the only membership association representing New Zealand veterinarians. They are committed to building exceptional professional lives for veterinarians by providing support, resources, leadership and advocacy.

They are seeking an experienced media professional to work closely with the Chief Executive and NZVA vet team to support them with both proactive and reactive media opportunities. The vast majority of their media engagement is currently reactive and this is likely to continue, however this contract opportunity will also focus on scanning the media and proactively alerting the team to opportunities for comment.

NZVA are open to contracting either an individual or company -  the skills are what are important.

Key areas of focus will include:

  • Utilising your strong networks to push messages through multiple channels
  • Converting NZVA position statements into media messages
  • Advising NZVA management on media/comms strategy
  • Understanding of the agricultural sector to cater for the rural vets as well as companion animal vets
  • Suggesting angles for promoting project work

In the last calendar year, NZVA had more than 246 stories or mentions in the media, however there is plenty of scope for growth. Your unflappable and flexible style and proactive approach to media work will see you take the lead on achieving this.

You will thrive in dynamic, forward thinking environments where positive change is the norm and will be prepared to try new things, learn and make improvements as an ongoing process.

If you want to work with a dedicated and passionate team that continues to represent one of New Zealand’s most trusted professions, please submit your application today.

Person Profile:

  • An understanding of the farming sector and connections with rural focused media
  • An understanding of companion animal vets
  • Proven ability to build relationships with journalists and secure positive media coverage
  • Proven strategic thinker with the ability to advise on media and communications strategy
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills to craft compelling messaging and interact effectively with stakeholders
  • Data-driven approach to decision-making, including interpreting media analytics and identifying trends
  • A collaborative approach and positive source of energy
  • Task oriented and delivery focused, coupled with an ability to see the bigger picture
