Job Description

Te Hautū Kahurangi | Tertiary Education Union (TEU) is looking for a new Te Pou Tuarā. We are an activist led, organising and campaigning union working across all parts of the tertiary education sector. We are looking for a person to fill this exciting and challenging role.

Te Pou Tuarā will advise, lead, and promote the interests and aspirations of TEU members, Māori and all others, in accordance with the rules and policies of the union; and through TEU’s commitment to Te Tiriti o Waitangi and the whāinga of TEU

The appointee will be expected to have:

1.     High level of competence in Te Reo Māori me ngā tikanga;

2.     Commitment to Te Tiriti o Waitangi and the whāinga of TEU;

3.     Highly developed communication skills (both written and oral, in Te Reo Māori and English);

4.  Sound interpersonal skills; and

5.  Awareness of cultural, economic, social, and political issues, particularly as they impact on education, Māori, and policy development in general.

Job Summary

Te Pou Tuarā will develop and maintain constructive relationships with branches, members, employers, and political leaders; and will work collaboratively with other TEU staff and with Māori and all other members at both the local and national levels.
