Pest Free Hibiscus Coast Project - Backyard Trapping Coordinator (Fixed Term)

Fixed Term Environment-Conservation Show the salary

Job Description

  • Do you enjoy working with the community to achieve conservation success?

  • Is sharing your excellent skills in predator control with others second nature for you?

  • Would you like to contribute to protecting nature together with a dynamic fun team?

Forest & Bird is New Zealand's leading independent conservation organisation. For 100 years, we have been advocating and speaking out for nature on land and in our seas, as well as coordinating community-based projects throughout Aotearoa New Zealand.

We are looking for a team player who would like to join us to lead the next phase of the Pest Free Hibiscus Coast Project’s backyard trapping programme and become part of our friendly, highly motivated team.

This is a full time, fixed term role, for the period of two years.

Pest Free Hibiscus Coast is one of Forest & Bird’s seven National Projects. The project’s vision is to create a safe and healthy habitat for native species transitioning from sanctuaries at Shakespear and Tiritiri Matangi along the Whangaparaoa peninsula and beyond, in a way that engages and enthuses the community.

The new team member we are looking for will have:

  • At least 2 years’ experience working or volunteering in the conservation field.

  • Skills in hands on predator control, preferably in an urban environment, experience of planning larger scale networks would be an advantage.

  • The ability to relate to and develop relationships with a wide cross-section of the community, including volunteers.

  • Strong interpersonal and written communication skills and the ability to work both independently and collaboratively as part of a small team.

  • High levels of self-motivation and a passion for New Zealand wildlife.

  • Resilient and flexible with the ability to manage a range of competing priorities.

  • Respect for and understanding of Health & Safety obligations.

  • You will also need to have your own vehicle and a relevant, clean, full New Zealand Driver’s license. (The role will require regular travel throughout the project area.)

If you’ve got what it takes and want to make a difference, we would love to hear from you.
