Reporting to the Vicar for Education, you will play a key role in supporting the Catholic Schools Education Services (CSES) Office by delivering high-level support and professional development to Directors of Religious Studies (DRS), Heads of Religious Studies (HORS), Religious Education (RE) staff in Catholic colleges within the Wellington Archdiocese. Additionally, you will coordinate the Certificate of Christian Studies programme, ensuring pre-teacher training students at Victoria University and Te Kupenga can access the programme.

You will be supported by a dedicated, experienced and supportive small team. Your work will help ensure the effective delivery of educational services for schools, enhancing teachers’ religious capabilities and furthering CSES’ commitment to excellence in Catholic education.

Key responsibilities:

  • Serve as a “trusted advisor” –providing tailored support and advice for DRS’ in schools through proactive, regular communication and on-site visits
  • Regularly communicate with DRS’ to assess staff training/professional development needs and create a plan for RE
  • Preparing, facilitating and presenting professional development workshops in-person and online
  • In collaboration with the Vicar for Education, prepare and deliver the courses RE501, RE502, and Having Life to the Full, as needed           
  • Grading assessments and assignments for courses
  • Maintain accurate and up-to-date student/teacher records, ensuring their learning progress is monitored
  • Assist in the development and/or updating of school curriculum frameworks and materials to align with the new RE curriculum
  • Coordinating and assisting the Lead Evaluator for two days of external evaluations, including post-evaluation report preparation and feedback
  • Support the promotion of the Certificate of Christian Studies programme during Victoria University’s orientation, aiming to increase enrolment and participation in courses such as RE501, RE502, etc.  

Your success in this role will depend on your ability to build strong trusted relationships, where others seek your proactive advice and support on professional development. Your talent for understanding people’s needs alongside your ability to influence, inspire and deliver engaging and effective workshops to learners at all levels will be essential.         

This role is ideal for a current or former teacher passionate about Catholic education, seeking to enhance professional and personal growth while contributing meaningfully to the education sector and positively impacting learners, teachers and schools.

 

Person Profile:

  • A relevant qualification in Theology, Religious Education or Scripture
  • Demonstrated experience in teaching, preferably within a Catholic school or college
  • Knowledge in teaching theories, practices, and techniques
  • A commitment to Catholic education and contemporary Catholic teaching
  • Strong interpersonal and relationship building skills, with the ability to foster collaborative connections with a diverse range of internal and external stakeholders
  • A confident communicator with strong written and verbal communication skills
  • Excellent time management, planning and prioritisation skills
  • Experience in needs assessment, facilitating groups and delivering training courses
  • Ability to deliver information clearly and engagingly to a wide range of learners
  • Knowledge of church documents appropriate to the work of CSES would be desirable
  • Confident, self-driven, and strong decision-maker with the ability to take initiative and think critically
  • Must hold a valid NZ Driver’s Licence
  • Regular local and regional travel weekly will be required to perform the role (across the Wairarapa, Wellington, Nelson region)

 

This is a permanent full-time role (37.5 hours per week), but 0.8FTE would be considered for the right person. ADW offers flexible working, access to EAP services, subsided life insurance, five weeks annual leave, and two additional ‘Archbishops holiday’ days each year.
