ActionStation is a community-powered organisation committed to creating a fair and flourishing Aotearoa. We drive change by empowering people to take bold, coordinated action on critical issues like Te Tiriti justice, climate action, and whānau wellbeing. As a member of our Board, you will help shape the future of ActionStation, ensuring our vision and values continue to drive impactful, inclusive campaigns.

The opportunity
We are seeking four new Board members who are passionate about social justice and community-led change. This is an opportunity to provide governance and strategic leadership to a dynamic organisation making a tangible difference in Aotearoa.

What we’re looking for
We are looking to supplement our Board with individuals who bring a diversity of skills, perspectives, and experiences. No one candidate will tick all boxes, but across our appointments we are looking for individuals with:

  • Experience in governance, particularly in the not-for-profit sector
  • Understanding of advocacy, campaigning, and driving social change
  • A strong understanding of Te Tiriti o Waitangi in theory and practice
  • Capability in financial oversight, compliance, and risk
  • Experience in fundraising, grant management, and funder relations 
  • Experience operating in a digital environment, including digital campaigning and stakeholder engagement
  • A collaborative and values-driven approach to leadership

We value diversity on our Board, and strongly encourage EOIs from:

  • Māori and those with a deep understanding of te ao Māori and Te Tiriti o Waitangi
  • Lived experience of systemic barriers, including Māori, Pacific, disabled, LGBTQIA+, or other marginalised communities 
  • Individuals from diverse ethnic backgrounds, including Pacific and migrant communities
  • Women, rangatahi (young people), and others from underrepresented groups, particularly those with lived experience of systemic barriers

Your role as a Board member

  • Provide governance oversight, ensuring ActionStation remains accountable to its mission and members
  • Help set the organisation’s strategic direction and priorities
  • Support the leadership team by offering insights, advice, and challenges where appropriate
  • Advocate for ActionStation’s kaupapa and ensure alignment with our values of aroha, kaitiakitanga, and community
  • Drive a strong organisational culture, including honouring Te Tiriti o Waitangi in all aspects of governance and strategy

Recruitment timeline

  • 18 December: Job listing goes live.
  • 14 February: Job advertisement closes.
  • 18 February: Shortlist of candidates confirmed.
  • 26–28 February: Candidate interviews held.
  • 14 March: Final Board members confirmed.

Commitment
Board meetings are held quarterly, with additional time required for subcommittees and special projects. Most meetings are held online, with at least one face to face meeting a year in Wellington. 

This is a voluntary role. Expenses for travel and related activities will be covered.
