Job Description

Tuilaepa Youth Mentoring Service Trust (TYMS) is a dynamic and innovative West Auckland based charity which picks up, supports and nurtures primarily Pasifika and Māori young people aged 6 - 21.  Through our evidence based practice TYMS assists these young people to re-engage in education, find meaningful training or employment.

The TYMS vision is of Pasifika and Māori youth who feel a sense of belonging and pride in our communities, and who achieve their full potential to secure their future. 

We are now looking for an outstanding individual to join our TYMS family as a Youth Mentor. 

The successful applicant will be a passionate and ambitious individual with experience in motivating youth, with a teaching/tutoring/mentoring background and an understanding of youth well-being. The ability to speak Maori or another Pasifika language would be an advantage.  We are looking for a Change Agent!

Key responsibilities will include:

  • Support the young person (between the ages of 6-18 years old) to achieve/work towards their academic, cultural, social/physical well-being goals through teaching them, advocating for them and encouraging them.
  • Role model positive behaviour to inspire and instruct young person to achieve their goals
  • Day to day running of programmes and young person management.
  • Able to maintain accurate records and complete session reports.
  • Support positive stakeholder engagement (police, community, other agencies, families etc).
  • Drive TYMS vehicle doing home visits, pick-ups and drop offs.
  • Support the development and maintenance of a high performing, innovative team who are emergent leaders in the field of working with pasifika and maori young people

Referee checks are carried out so please be able to supply referees of a supervisory level.

Salary

$49,999 – $59,999 per year (NZD)
